Response to Angie and the rest of you who are using this blog to voice your uneducated thoughts ultimately advising "dangerous birthing practices" for moms and babes.

I would advocate against anything that is not safe for mom or baby.  Home Births facilitated by Lay midwives have 2 to 3 times the infant mortality rate.  The recent study supporting this is a cohort study (which includes several studies thus the cohort studies are much more reliable).  Check it out!  It is on the AGOG web site and is just one more reason why ACOG, here in the US does not advocate home births.  These studies over ride "the feel good crap" that is propagated by the pro midwifery groups globally.

Accidents happen but a 2 to 3 times infant mortality rate says something factual you can bank on.  The midwifery groups are selling themselves and ultimately offer the public similar rhetoric as the PRO CHOICE community....IE “Mothers have the right to choose (regardless of what the experts or the stats show) and to hell with the baby".  They are motivated by their own business interests just like the abortionists!  The profitable business of Home Birthing is their motive!!!  Their "feel good" propaganda, while seducing the public is all about their pocket book.

In addition, the "so called big bad hospitals and Drs are MANDATED by law to carry liability in case of mistakes in order to compensate for error.  That is professionalism.  You screw up, you pay!  Now why is this not a universal law governing the lay midwife who claims to be a professional...and wants to be recognized and treated as one.  One year of education, no medical training, no medical supervision / or board, no liability yet the freedom to go into someone’s home...alone and be in charge of one of the most dangerous "natural" procedures where TWO are at risk for death which can happen in minutes by the way....not hours.  It takes minutes to bleed out and boom, your dead!  Same with baby.  "No blood, no oxygen, no brain, no heart beat, IRREVERSIBLE Damage, and DEATH" in minutes.  These are the RISKS for mom and baby regardless of where you choose to birth your child.

Too many women are spouting off such as yourself without the research to back you up.  Women’s rights to choose are fine as long as they are safe but do not advocate for a group of snakes that veil themselves as mission oriented do gooders out for mothers and their babies to keep them from the inferred "Hazards of the big bad hospitals and Drs.” THEY WANT A PIECE OF THE PIE W/O HAVING TO DO THE TIME, TRAINING, ACCOUNTABILITY, LIABILITY COVERAGE, AND EDUCATION!!!  It is a law that I cannot drive my car w/o insurance yet they can attempt to deliver an infant in a home setting where there are no options for emergency care if needed...Pathetic!

IN ADDITION, the physicians and hospitals are the ones that are asked to continually clean up after the lay midwives should the home birth goes from sunshine to shit which can happen in seconds yet they are made out to be the inept practitioners...give me a break.

The lack of standards governing the basic foundational education and training requirements in place for these yo yos to practice IS THE ISSUE HERE!  They are completely uneducated and trained as to what to do when medical emergencies arise.  THIS INCOMPETENCE is what happened to Sam, my nephew....and why he and his family suffer today.

So please, take your thoughts and get some teeth to them so you have sense regarding what you’re talking about and sending to the next mother and baby.  Silence is advocacy in its passivity by the way so if your "open to whatever the mom wants whether hospital or home birth" which is your message above...fine.  Just put out the risks and data with both that reputable studies provide. If they are aware of the risks and what is at stake, I think they would choose the medical profession because that is ultimately where they end up when they realize that home birthing facilitated by a lay midwife is very dangerous should complications arise.

Heck, if someone wants to jump off a bridge or shoot themselves in the head...by all means.  The data says you will die or at least suffer severe physical limitations for the remainder of your life.  You want to take that risk for your self...so be it but not for your baby too.  We would try that in a court as murder.

By the way, I am sure your family was handsomely compensated for the complications of their birth disaster by the hospital and physicians involved.  My family has nothing and the financial responsibilities of raising a disabled son are enormous.  Just one more fact to consider when you open your mouth and voice your opinions.
